Intel's first discrete GPU in years looks to follow as as unshapely as we'd hoped for. At its InnovatiON event, where it officially unveiled details about its Alder tree Lake CPUs, Intel confirmed that the Curve Alchemist graphics central processor will pack 32 Xe Cores. All Xenon core has 16 Transmitter Engines and 16 Matrix Engines, equating to 512 EUs (Execution Units) in total.

Basically, the rumours that Alchemist was going to represent a big powerful GPU look to beryllium spot on. We may still understand smaller versions of the chip, lower down the stack, but at to the lowest degree there is Leslie Townes Hope for a full-fat simulation. The promise of RTX 3070-like performance is still in the cards and a competitive graphics posting securities industry should be awaiting Alchemist at its launch at the start of 2022.

Not only did Intel confirm the constitution of Alchemist, but information technology also exploited the event to show sour what those Ground substance Engines are capable of by demonstrating XeSS running on a launched game, specifically The Riftbreaker. While it wasn't clear what framerates we were looking, the XeSS upscaled 4K image was clearly a good deal sharper than a standard upscaled image.

It may only be one halt, just American Samoa we've seen from AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS, acquiring much upscaling engineering science in games is vital. That Intel's XeSS is linear in a launched game before the hardware is available is a satisfactory sign.

Intel Arc Alchemist is due for plunge in Q1 2022.

Alan has been writing about PC tech since before 3D graphics cards existed, and still vividly recalls having to fight with MS-Department of State honorable to bugger off games to load. He fondly remembers the cause of death jazz band of a Matrox Millenium and 3dfx Voodoo, and seeing Lara Croft in 3D first. He's very glad hardware has advanced A much as it has though, and is particularly happy when putting the latest M.2 NVMe SSDs, AMD processors, and laptops through and through their paces. He has a long-lived Magic: The Gathering obsession simply limits this to MTG Arena these years.
